Flying Legends Press Release

Here is the official Flying Legends Press Release. We hope to be able to bring you more details in the next two weeks.

James May, co-presenter of BBC TV’s Top Gear, will be attending Flying Legends on 11 July, where he will be signing books and meeting visitors between 10.30am and 11.30am.
Following on from his incredibly popular BBC Two series, James May’s Toy Stories, James delves deeper into the stories behind Britain’s favourite toys with his new book, The Airfix Handbook.Avid viewers of James May’s Toy Stories will recall his ambitious project to create a 1/1 scale Airfix Spitfire.

The Airfix Handbook sees James return to the legendary modelling brand to
learn more about Airfix and its fundamental role in children’s lives for the past 58 years. James raids the Airfix archives and uncovers a wealth of nostalgic imagery. He looks at Airfix’s greatest kits, the history of the Spitfire in plastic and enters the world of modellers, discovering that it has come a long way since his childhood memories of gluey fingers, fiddly decals and busted propellers. The Airfix Handbook provides a fascinating look at the history of the iconic brand of Airfix,
from the earliest model kits to the present day. There is also an expert step-by-step guide to building a 1:72 Spitfire kit.

Flying Legends is without doubt one of the finest warbird air shows in the world, providing an unrivalled line-up of the classic propeller-driven combat aircraft from both the First and Second World Wars, many of which are now either rare or unique.
The Fighter Collection are pleased to announce that over 50 aircraft will participate at the 2010 event including 10 Spitfires. Flying Legends will showcase the development of this iconic fighter with participation of the very rare Mk1 Spitfire right through to a Mk XIX variant.

These legendary aircraft and superbly talented pilots come from across the globe to display at Flying Legends. Visitors can expect to see a wide range of iconic aircraft, including the P-51 Mustang, Hawker Hurricane, Lancaster bomber and much more.

As in previous years, Flying Legends 2010 will undoubtedly provide a show-stopping
performance, enabling visitors to see exceptional aircraft in breath-taking aerial displays in the skies above Duxford. On the ground, there will be activities for all ages, including funfair rides, bungee trampolines, tank rides and demonstrations.
Tickets for all events can be purchased online at www.iwm.org.uk/duxford or by calling the box office on 01223 499 353.

All flying is subject to weather, serviceability and operational commitments

FofTFC Blog - the one and only

OK, what is happening and why are we so quiet?

Well what a pretty hectic May with the Harvard and Sptfire Mk Vb regaining their permit to fly, the Spit going on a holiday to France and the Czech republic (due back this w/e by the way). Attending the Duxford air display with Sea Fury, Miss Velma and our Harvard.

We have also welcomed Brian Marshall as a contributor with his regular visits allowing updates on events in the hangar. Thank you Brian.

As the interweb gets more and more whizzy we get asked why don't we do Facebook, why don't we do My space, Why don't we do Twitter?

The simple answer is this, we don't have time! Rest assured if there is news we will post it here. We will also have in depth content for our loyal Friends on the Fof TFC members pages and the main site will carry other important stuff.

If we are quiet it is because we are a) busy, b) busy c) tired. But rest assured if their is news we will endevour to bring it to you here first.

Don't forget we like to hear your thoughts , so please feel free to use the comments option, but be aware if you don't include your email address in the comment we can't reply due to the way we recieve the comments on blogger!

Be back with more news soon.
